Yuki 7 Whisky Ad

After seeing all the great Yuki 7 work that Kevin Dart and company did and are doing for the book release and upcoming art show at Gallery Nucleus, I got inspired to do a piece of my own. Being the Icon of the 60's that she was, I figured that Ms. Yuki 7 herself would be in many many adverts. Since I enjoy Japanese whiskys, I figured I would place her in an ad for one. So there it is. I think it needs more of a clever slogan or catch phrase, but it'll do for now. I'll go have me a drink to think up a better one.

Began playing Phantom Hourglass (again) last night so I got the inspiration to draw "Toon" Link this morning. Not sure why I went with the faux print look. Gave me a reason to use that stained paper scan though. I hope another Zelda game is made in this "toon" version. I think I like it better than the other ones. Wind Waker was so fun.

Hugo the Self-Portrait

I don’t really ever draw myself. Or at least I haven’t in years. So I figured I’d have a go at it and do it the way I’ve been drawing lately. It was just going to be a sketch but it just kept going to the piece you see above. Then I figured it would be cool to see everyone that reads this blog to do the same. Self-Portrait Time everyone! I figure as artists Most of us evolve and change the way we do our art. Even slightly but there is some change. So I’d like to see everyone’s current way of doing a self-portrait. I’ll link to those that participate. Lets do it people!

Cherry Blossoming

More packaging. Quick and basic piece here but still fun to do. A Japanese themed doll goes with this BG (obviously), but I don't know what she is wearing. I hope the colors work out alright.

On a side note I started a new blog. its called hungry hungry hugo. Since I spend so much time eating and cooking I figured I could blog about it. If you do either of those and enjoy to do so check it on out.

Ultimate Wild Thing

I'm really looking forward to seeing Spike Jone's feature film of Where The Wild Things Are. It was one of my favorite books as a kid (and still is one of my faves). I like how these big monsters aren't really scary. Then I started to think how Totoro is like the Ultimate wild thing. Some giant creature (even bigger than the wild things) that isn't scary at all. If anything, he looks like something you want to hug all the time. So this little piece is of Max meeting Totoro. Rar!

Sketchbook Vs. Paper

Here is another page of work doodles done on some random piece of paper. For some reason I can't seem to work in a sketchbook. I can draw on any paper that I find without a problem but if it's a sketchbook page it stays blank. I've even bought some nice looking sketchbooks thinking that it would intrigue me to draw in them. Nope. I think I have this idea that they should only be full of pristine nice drawings. Not no loose drawings or half ass looking doodles. I need to get over this somehow because they are a good way of keeping artwork all together. I'll see how that goes, heh heh heh. This doodle though has me thinking that a tattoo that's as crazy and full as this might look cool, no?

Love That Joker...

This new Joker from The Dark Night was such a krazy kool and new take on that character that it's a shame that it will never be performed again. Heath Ledger did a great job with him. I like seeing super insane villains. Ones that are capable of anything, even hurting themselves. Even the new look is kool, mutilated face and all. Although I do like the permanent white skin and green hair on him rather than it being make up. Again, the Joker is someone else I have never drawn, despite him being my favorite comic bad dude, so here he is. Would have liked to have seen a Harley Quinn down the line too. Want to know how I got these scars? Intense!

HellBoy and Abe

So I'm pretty excited about the new Hellboy movie coming out soon. Mostly because of the direction by Guillermo Del Toro, mostly. I think that man can't go wrong with what he does. Inspired, I figured I would do a Hellboy and Abe Sapien piece since I had never really drawn these 2 characters before. It was fun. Time now for my next upcoming movie inspired piece. Why so serious?

London Post

So I just got back from a trip to London that I, Daniel, Elizabeth and Kevin took. It was an amazing trip. I can't wait to go back. The above piece is one that I started in London but finished here (inspired by our visit to the area where Jack the Ripper roamed). 7 days there and that's all I drew. For shame. But, I did take a few photos of my London Trip and put them on flickr for all of yalls to enjoy (some are blurry but I aint no photographer so they iz what they iz). Elizabeth took some nicer pics, including some of our visit to the Spaced house, so I hope she'll have those up soon. London!

Here be some background designs I did for the Nick show "The X's" back in '05. Just some simple shots of a kitchen and a shot of a resort that needed to have a Frank Lloyd Wright feel to it. Twas fun to do this very angular kind of stuff. I never saw these on air or even colored in. I hope they came out ok.

The Rage

So This is my latest digital painting created on a program that Armen recommended named Art Rage. I am really liking it. A whole lot easier to use than Painter and the results are pretty good. And also only being $25 doesn't suck. I still need to mess with the program some more to get used to its "inner workings", if you will, and to make my work look less computer generated. And now back to Super Smash Bros Brawl... GAME!

Lamp Post

Eyvind Madness

So this be my attempt at 2 things. One is doing a piece completely digitally, from the sketch to the final product... And Two is to do a piece in an Eyvind Earle style. This was a lot of fun. After doing it though, I have concluded that Mr. Earle was insane. You have to be to have the patience to do these kind of pieces. Even though this is digital, it took me a while to do. I can just imagine using actual paints, mixing color and what not. Pure madness. I guess its what makes his artork so FREAKING beautiful is the amount of detail to it. He was a true artist. I hope I have done you justice Eyind Earle. Can't wait to do more of these!

Creatures and Vegas?

Ok, so these are the pieces I did for an art show for the now faded Fadedcamel. Twas a show we did about 2 years ago now at Meltdown Comics. These were fun because color pencils are easy to use and get pretty good results. It was also fun to draw these gals. Although I can't say I'm proud of all 5, I still think they look pretty decent. The green one sold! What what!!

Waiting Room Doodles

Haven't drawn to much lately so I figured I would post a doodle I did yesterday. While drawing him though, I got to thinking about Mari's post about how she has been using her paintings of animals and stuff to express her feelings. Funny how that happened with this guy. Can't say that he is an exact representation of me but he is pretty close. Anyway, hope to post some more stuff soon. Maybe some older work that hasn't got much play. And now back to the Wii!

Back in '84

Here is a drawing I did back in '84. It is of Voltron (and what I think is a Robeast in the back). I got a kick out of seeing this. I guess I drew this on the same day that both of my two front teeth fell out. I remember that I begged and begged for the Voltron Toy until I finally got it. I still have it today. He's a little broken, but still good. Yeah, still good.

Trick or Treat y'all. So Skeleton Boy has gone through a small change. It looked to me like his more graphic style didn't fit the other characters and environments he was in (SB comic #1, #2, and #3). So this is his new look. I made him a little scarier too, to fit his scenarios more. So what do you think? Happy Halloween!

Planet Terror

So I finally got around to watching the Grindhouse movies, Planet Terror and Death Proof. While I really enjoyed Planet Terror, I can't really say the same for Death Proof. But I digress... I thought that Rose McGowan's character Cherry Darling was pretty sweet so I decided to do a little sketch on her with her fun leg. Kind of like the way this turned out. I think I might just paint this sketch. Man I hated Death Proof!

Back When I Animated

So here be my student film from 2002. Uploaded on youtube, of course, so it loses some of the quality. Still watchable though. I'm thinking of remaking this film. A redux if you will. Maybe both animation and some live action. I have another film I did after this one (2003) but I like this one better. Enjoy. Wee!

Tattoos Aplenty

I have a few tattoos going on my right arm. All of which were done by Mark over at Studio City Tattoo, the best tattoo shoppe ever. Hope to keep getting more done and hope that Mark does them all. His line work is incredible. So.... there are some tattoos that I never posted the artwork of (either here or at myspace). I figured this time around instead of just putting that new artwork up, I would show pics of the actual tattoos. So here they are (in no particular order):

The talking door knob isn't from the book, but I thought he was great in the film so I put him on my arm. Woo Woo!

Spider-Man Fun

Before Spider-man 3 came out, there was all this hype on it in magazines and on various sites. This got Armen and me to start our "draw a spider-man a day" fun. No real theme or rules with it. Just draw him in anyway we wanted and in any style. While we really didn't stick to it and only got like 11 or 12 sketches done, it was still fun. Here are a few of the ones I did that I like. I hope Armen starts a blog or something soon too so he can post his spider-mans (spider-men?). Yee Haw!

Revisiting the 80's

After watching the "Transformers" movie this weekend, I figured I would post a painting I did earlier this year that's within the same nostalgia. It's Cheetara from the Thundercats. It was part of an art show held at Gallery Nucleus titled "After These Messages." It seems she is still for sale there but I think I way over priced this piece. Live and learn. (***Update*** Not there no more. I took her home instead.) My idea here was circus people and I figured the Thundercats would have made great circus freaks. I should probably do the rest of the group. Probably........ Hallah!

This is Bill, the lizard with a ladder. He is both in the movie, Alice In Wonderland, and in the book, Alice's Adventures In Wonderland. Bill doesn't have to big of roles in either, but I think he is a great character. That is why he is a prominent tattoo on my forearm/elbow. Bill.... You complete me.

Skeleton Boy

OK, so I figured I would start with a new piece of art. There isn't much of that just yet but I am hoping that this blog will keep me active. This is Skeleton Boy. He is a boy that died around the age of 6 and has come back to life. His name as of now is Clive Ashton. He lives in a cemetery and is a little naive about his circumstances. All he wants to do is make friends. Unfortunately he can't talk and he's a skeleton. This, of course, scares off everyone. Despite these shenanigans, he is usually a pretty happy boy. This here image is the "cover" of what will be several little comics on little Clive and his attempts at making friends. I will post the first comic as soon as I clean that sucker up. Solid...
